A Legacy of Faith & Fellowship

The San Pablo Holy Ghost Association (SPHGA) was organized in 1881, making it one of the oldest Portuguese-American fraternal organizations in California. Rooted in the tradition of the Holy Ghost Festival — a centuries-old Portuguese celebration of faith and charity — SPHGA has served the San Pablo community for generations.

Our annual Festa do Espírito Santo, held every second Sunday in June, brings neighbors together to share in sopas (traditional Portuguese soup), a parade, and Mass — keeping the spirit of our ancestors alive in the Bay Area.

Among our most treasured possessions is our silver crown, crafted in 1889 — a symbol of the Holy Ghost tradition that has been carried in procession for generations.

The Silver Crown of 1889

Our silver crown, crafted in 1889, is among the most treasured symbols of the Holy Ghost tradition in California. It has been carried in procession at our Festa for generations, connecting each new year's celebration to the Portuguese immigrants who first established this community.

The Holy Ghost Festival has its roots in centuries of Portuguese Catholic tradition — a celebration of faith, thanksgiving, and charity in which food is shared freely with all who come. SPHGA carries that spirit forward every second Sunday in June.

"A silver crown crafted in 1889 — carried in procession for generations, connecting the Bay Area's Portuguese-American community across more than a century."
